Since 2019
The grill
One charcoal fire in the middle of the room, a bread oven beside it and a kitchen that makes its own sauces every morning.
The room
One grill, lit at eleven, burning until the last order.
The charcoal is in the middle of the room, so everything you order is cooked in front of you. Sit in, or take it away in the same bread it was cooked on.
Head of the grill
Kemal has cooked over charcoal for thirty years.
He learned at his uncle’s ocakbaşı in Adana and still minces the lamb for the adana by hand. Ask for a seat at the counter and he will tell you what is best tonight.
- Lamb minced by hand every morning
- Bread baked to order, all day
- Six sauces made before lunch
Why choose us
Why people come back every week
Three things the kitchen does the same way every day, whatever you order.
01
Charcoal, never gas
One fire, lit at eleven and fed all day. It is the reason the meat tastes of something and not of a pan.
02
Bread made here
The dough is mixed each morning and baked to order, so what arrives at the table has been out of the oven for about a minute.
03
Sauces made daily
Six of them, all made in the kitchen that morning. Nothing arrives in a bottle and nothing is bought in.
Guest book
What the table said afterwards
“The adana is the best I have had outside Turkey, and the bread arrives so hot you have to wait for it.”
Selin, Thursday regular
“We ordered the mezze for the table and ended up ordering it twice. Lovely, unhurried service.”
Tom, birthday dinner
“You can smell the charcoal from the street. Sit near the grill and watch them work.”

Questions we are asked most
Anything else? Call +44 20 7946 0000 between 15:00 and 17:00.
Do you deliver?
Within three miles, every day from midday until half an hour before close. Anything off the grill goes out in the bread it was cooked on, so it is still warm when it reaches you.
Is the meat halal?
All of it. The lamb and chicken come from one supplier and the certificate is on the wall by the till if you would like to see it.
What is there for vegetarians?
A whole section. The vegetables go over the same charcoal as everything else, and the falafel, halloumi and mezze are cooked in their own pans, not the grill.
Can you cook around allergies?
Tell us when you order and we will tell you honestly what we can do. The fryer is shared, so anything from it may carry traces of gluten and dairy.
Do you take bookings, or is it walk-in?
Both. Tables are held for twenty minutes past the time you booked; after that they go to whoever is at the door. Parties of nine or more should telephone.
How spicy is the chilli sauce?
Hot enough that we will ask before we put it on. Ask for it on the side and you can decide yourself — there is a milder red pepper sauce too.
